The parts of us we try to hide or deny run the show and affect how we feel about ourselves and our lives.

This is what gets between us and happiness.

Become aware of these unconscious stories, fears, and beliefs, and new choices and outcomes arise.

About Me.

When my mother died devastated by incredible grief and bitterness that her life had not turned out how she wanted, I was faced with a precious gift: look or turn away from her as a mirror reflecting that I was not much happier.  I was a burned-out high school English teacher with deteriorating health and a crumbling marriage. When my husband invited me to a workshop on healing shame, something clicked.  I started seeing shame everywhere.  First, I recognized it in education, then saw its effects on individual's behavior around me.  Finally, I got comfortable enough with shame as an emotion that everyone has to become willing to own and work on my own shame parts.

Instead of hiding in shame, now I get curious.  Rather than judging myself so harshly, I can call in understanding and even pride for making it through everything that got me to this point.  Slowly, I have been able to recognize when old reactions start to come up and have the capacity to make a different choice: moving from an unconscious adaptive child reaction to standing in the wise adult part of me that wants a different outcome.  â€‹

It is possible.  We can change how we relate to ourselves, others, and even our personal histories.  Shame illuminated in the shadow place it hides, can become our guide to what holds us, stuck.

Why do shadow and shame work?

When there is light, there is awareness.  Where there is awareness, there is choice.

  • Shame

    • Healthy shame has a purpose.  We don't need to be ashamed of our shame or get rid of it.

    • Toxic shame can be transformed and the associated stories, rewritten and rewired.

    • Shame that was put on us by others can be given back in a safe way.

  • Shadow

    • The shadow holds parts of us that have been shoved down into our unconscious.

    • When we deny it, it demands our attention like a child, popping out at inopportune times and in inappropriate ways.

    • When we appreciate and accept all of ourselves, we can be in alignment with who we are and the choices we make.

DeShaming Shame Workshop & Group Experience

Defensiveness.  Blaming everyone else.  Denial.  Busyness & Distractions.  Addictive Behaviors.

Lost or Unhealthy Relationships. Negative Self-Beliefs. Depression. Control Issues. Anxiety.

These are tell-tale signs that unprocessed shame

is unconsciously running our lives.

Shame is a primary and useful emotion.  It has a purpose.

And it only takes a little to get the job done.

Most of us have some old, unprocessed shame from early childhood that is still hiding out and interfering with healthy relationships with ourselves and others.

Being in a small, safe group setting to learn about and share what we have been taught to hide from others and even ourselves, allows a lightness and transformation to happen.

The class allowed me to raise my awareness around shame, shame triggers, and how I can change the messaging around what I say to myself. I learned how to be more compassionate with myself, and Eliz’s focus on resourcing was very helpful. Having opportunities to share with others really helped me reflect on some of my experiences and made me feel connected. ~ Carrie B.

Testimonials

When I think about where I was and how I felt at the beginning of the class and how I feel now, there is a huge shift and lightness that I am experiencing. I have a greater capacity to deal with the many things that come at me. I thoroughly enjoyed the group and the format.  ~ Tracy A.

Even after certification from another professional source, I found this to be an extremely revealing and useful experience.  Elizabeth's approach and how she was able to clarify the concepts and pull in all the other work she has done has provided an expanded framework for recognizing and working with even my long-standing clients. ~ Barbara M. MD - Psychiatry

I took this class with the hope of learning something new to deepen my understanding of shadow work. I'm so glad I did! Shame is a topic that isn't discussed enough; it can trigger and color one's experience so easily if it isn't understood. â€‹Although I've had some education in addressing shame, this workshop helped me much more completely understand what shame is, how it crops up, how to make friends with it, and how to use my awareness of it to move through it. Eliz brings a wealth of wisdom to this subject.  I think it's an important class for anyone to take who is struggling with shame and feelings of not measuring up.

As a professional body worker, I have also benefited from this experience.  I had a client who was dealing with all kinds of shame and other emotions she'd not allowed herself to feel or speak about since childhood  What I experienced and learned about working with shame helped me so much as I worked with her yesterday. She left the session feeling a lot lighter. Thank you, thank you, thank you.  ~ Natalie G. LMT
